SAS - Loops

What is it?

Loops enable you to repeat a process
They repeat your isntructions until some condition is met either through a limit you set or some condition is reached
There are a couple of loops you should be aware of Iterative and Conditional; see examples below.

Loop Example:

Do Loop Example

libname ABCDEFGH postgres server="Server_Address.com" port=5432 user=kevin password="P@ssW0rd" database=DBName schema=SchemaName;

data work.account;

marbles=50;

   do i = 1 to 10;
      marbles + 5;
   end;
run;

Do Until Example

libname ABCDEFGH postgres server="Server_Address.com" port=5432 user=kevin password="P@ssW0rd" database=DBName schema=SchemaName;

data work.carloan_until;

loan = 30000;
payments = 0;

  do until (loan = 0);
    loan = loan - 500;
    payments = payments + 1;
   end;
run;

Do While Example

libname ABCDEFGH postgres server="Server_Address.com" port=5432 user=kevin password="P@ssW0rd" database=DBName schema=SchemaName;

data work.carloan_while;

loan = 30000;
payments = 0;

  do while (loan > 0);
    loan = loan - 500;
    payments = payments + 1;
   end;
run;
